Public Consultation on Program Rules version 8

The National GreenPower Steering Group (NGPSG) is seeking comment on the draft of the GreenPower Program Rule Version 8.

Responses can be sent via email to greenpower@dwe.nsw.gov.au by Friday 15 June with subject line "Response to Draft of GreenPower Program Rules Version 8".

2010 Annual Compliance Audit Results

The National GreenPower Program Manager has released the 2010 audit results on behalf of the National GreenPower Steering Group.
The results show that although customer numbers have dropped between 2009 and 2010, the sales remained the same with approximately 2.2 Million MWh sold both years.

At the recent GreenPower Providers forum, Kristian Handberg from the Victorian Department of Transport presented an update on the “Victorian Electric Vehicle Trial”. The Trial was launched in October 2010 and is set to continue till 2014. At present there are nearly 50 vehicles participating in the trial all of which are powered by 100% GreenPower supplied by AGL.

SA Government to purchase 50% GreenPower by 2014

In a recently published plan, "A Renewable Energy Plan for South Australia", the South Australian Government announced that it is still committed to purchasing 50% of the State Government electricity consumption from GreenPower by 2014.

Origin helps Sydney Opera House to increase their GreenPower contribution

Early March, Origin announced it will support Sydney Opera House's energy and sustainability goals by helping to increase their GreenPower to 10 per cent from March 2011. This will form part of an ongoing strategy to complement the House's energy and sustainability plan including offsetting emissions for two major Sydney Opera House events and festivals.

Australia's first GreenPowered tram

Melbourne: A partnership between Yarra Trams, Pacific Hydro and Sustainability Victoria has resulted in Australia's first GreenPowered tram.

The wind-powered tram is now running along Melbourne's busiest tram line, Route 96 from East Brunswick to St Kilda, which carries an estimated 12 million people each year and was recently ranked by National Geographic as one of the world's top 10 tram rides.

Wrapped in an eye-catching wind farm image, the tram also has interpretive materials on climate change and GreenPower throughout the interior with support advertising at tram stops and in electronic media.

GreenPower for the tram was purchased from one of Pacific Hydro's Victorian wind farms with enough bought to run the tram on renewable energy until the end of 2008.

At the launch of the initiative, Chief Executive Officer of Yarra Trams, Dennis Cliche said: “It is our vision that in the coming years Yarra Trams will be able to power a larger proportion of our fleet with green energy with the support of the State of Victoria and our parent companies."

Pacific Hydro’s Chief Executive Officer Rob Grant welcomed the initiative by Yarra Trams adding: “This is a great example of business leading the way and promoting sustainability”, said Mr Grant. “The wind tram makes an already sustainable form of mass transport even greener.”
