Congratulations to the GreenPower sponsored UNSW Sunswift Solar Racing Team for winning the prestigious Banksia Mindful Movement Award at a ceremony held in Sydney last Friday.
The Award, which was presented to members of the Team at the Banksia Sustainability Awards, recognises demonstrated leadership in the development of innovative ways of reducing the environmental impacts associated with transportation; in order to foster more sustainable and liveable regions now and into the future.
The GreenPower Program, which is managed by the NSW Department of Industry, sponsored the Sunswift Team by providing enough accredited renewable energy to displace the grid electricity used by the Team’s engineering facilities and the grid charging of the solar car’s batteries. The Program also provided some financial support.
GreenPower Program Manager, Brian Pate, said:
“GreenPower is proud to be associated with the exceptional students that make up the UNSW Sunswift Solar Racing Team. This Award is recognition of all their dedication, ingenuity, expertise and hard work. The Banksia Awards is one of the most prestigious environmental awards in the country.”
“Not only did they take out the Award, they finished an outstanding 4th place in the cruiser class at the recent World Solar Challenge race from Darwin to Adelaide. An outstanding effort considering the resources spent on some of the international solar cars they were competing against.”
“We look forward to continuing our support of the Team as they look to get their solar car, eVe, fully approved for use on the road next year - an achievement that would be an Australian first.”
