GreenPower is developing a Renewable Gas Certification Pilot in partnership with Jemena and Energy Networks Australia (ENA) to test how voluntary schemes can enable gas network customers to access renewable gas.
The pilot will design, deliver and run a renewable gas certificate registry that will enable gas network customers to buy renewable gas.
The pilot will support renewable gas projects such as Jemena’s biomethane injection project in Malabar. It will also inform the design of a potential permanent renewable gas certification scheme.
GreenPower will work with international and Australian stakeholders leveraging its 24 years of expertise and experience in voluntary markets and accrediting renewable energy to run the pilot. This will ensure certification is independent, trusted and transparent to give customers confidence that their action has the intended effect of lowering emissions and that they will receive value for money.
The pilot is expected to start operating in early 2022 and will run for approximately two years.
We will release further details about the project in the second half of the year.
GreenPower will run a targeted stakeholder engagement in the coming months to better inform the pilot’s design. If you would like to participate or find out more information, please complete the form on the Contact us page.
