Having your say about the design of the certification and find out more about how it was developed
The Renewable Gas Certification Pilot was initiated by GreenPower in collaboration with Jemena Gas Networks and Energy Networks Australia (ENA) in 2021 (media release) and launched its operation in August 2023. GreenPower is leading the delivery of the pilot.
A public consultation in early 2022 sought feedback on the pilot’s proposed design. It discussed a range of topics including what renewable gases can participate, project eligibility requirements, treatment of upstream emissions and interactions with other schemes. Overall, 34 submissions were received from a mix of gas developers/producers, retailers, consumers, consultants, and advisory groups. You can read the consultation paper and findings summary on our consultation page.
Responses to the consultation have helped to inform the design of the pilot rules, which set out how the pilot operates, who can participate, and administrative arrangements such as fees and logo use. You can find the pilot rules here.
