GreenPower accredits the first project in the Renewable Gas Certification
Jemena’s Malabar Biomethane Project has been accredited as the first participant in the newly launched GreenPower Renewable Gas Certification. The Malabar project is producing and injecting biomethane into the Sydney gas network.
GreenPower is happy to announce the accreditation of the Malabar Biomethane Project within the recently launched GreenPower Renewable Gas Certification. The Malabar project is using biogas from wastewater to produce biomethane and injecting it into the NSW gas distribution network. This process displaces fossil gas from the network and subsequently decarbonises gas use. This is an Australian-first project operated by Jemena Gas Networks with support from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
By participating in the Certification, Jemena will be able to create and sell renewable gas certificates, creating an additional revenue stream for the project, and allowing business gas consumers to match their fossil gas use with accredited low-emission renewable gas certificates. Renewable gas project developers, as well as business gas users, are encouraged to contact GreenPower to discuss how the certification can support them. More information about the Renewable Gas Certification is available here.
